STULZ introduces low-GWP R454C refrigerant for data centre cooling

STULZ has announced the availability of its new CyberAir 3PRO DX GE4(S) range for use in data centres. The latest addition to the GE series of precision air conditioning systems with indirect free cooling is available in three sizes with cooling capacities ranging from 24 kW to 71 kW, providing flexibility for a wide range of room sizes and power requirements. A comprehensive selection of options is also available to ensure optimal adaptation to individual customer needs.

Low-GWP refrigerant supports sustainability goals

As part of its commitment to reducing environmental impact, STULZ has configured the CyberAir 3PRO DX GE4(S) range to operate with the future-proof A2L refrigerant R454C. According to the ASHRAE safety classification, A2L refrigerants offer low toxicity and low flammability while delivering high energy efficiency and significantly lower Global Warming Potential (GWP).

With a GWP value of only 148, R454C complies with the requirements of the European Union’s F-Gas Regulation 2024/573, which aims to significantly reduce emissions of fluorinated greenhouse gases. The regulation accelerates the phase-down of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and encourages the adoption of climate-friendly alternatives such as R454C. By introducing this refrigerant across the CyberAir 3PRO DX GE4(S) range, STULZ provides customers with long-term investment security while supporting the reduction of the carbon footprint associated with data centre cooling.

Integrated safety concept

Safety remains a critical requirement in mission-critical environments. For this reason, the CyberAir 3PRO DX GE4(S) range incorporates an integrated safety concept specifically designed for low-GWP refrigerants.

The refrigeration circuit has been certified and tested to ensure permanent leak-tightness, while its optimized design prevents refrigerant accumulation inside the unit. In addition, two explosion-proof gas sensors located within the housing and control cabinet continuously monitor refrigerant concentration levels. If elevated levels are detected, the system automatically shuts down all electrical components except the fans and triggers an alarm.

Advanced controls and seamless integration

STULZ has also focused on operational simplicity and ease of use. The advanced E² control system with touchscreen interface enables intuitive management of CyberAir 3PRO DX GE4(S) units.

Building on the proven E² platform already used in the CyberAir Mini range, the control system has been further optimized and supports a wide range of communication interfaces and protocols, including Modbus RTU, BACnet IP, BACnet MS/TP, HTTP and SNMP. This enables seamless integration into existing building management systems (BMS). Additional features such as device detection, access control, event and trend logging, and emergency operating mode contribute to maximum operational reliability and transparency.

Designed for the future of data centre cooling

The CyberAir 3PRO DX GE4(S) range reflects STULZ’s ongoing commitment to delivering cooling solutions that combine advanced technology with modern design, user-friendly operation, energy efficiency, scalability and reliability.

The adoption of R454C refrigerant throughout the product range further supports efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and strengthen the environmental sustainability of data centre operations.
